To teach this song, I taught the chorus first (at the bottom of this post are lesson plans for the 1st and 2nd verses.) and made these star sticks:
Pictured above is an old picture and I didn’t save my document. But I created a new one that you can download using the access button at the bottom of this post. I just printed the stars out on regular paper and taped them to popsicle sticks. Then I’m going to let the kids just take them home when we’re finished!
I will create 2 groups grouped by color and whenever we sing “shine” or “shining” one group will hold up their sticks. Then whenever we sing “bright” or “brightly” the other group will hold up their sticks. Then we’ll switch back and forth. Then I may have them listen for rhyming words and when they hear a word that rhymes, they can hold up their stars too.
Variation: The chorus would be perfect for the Sr. Primary to learn the alto part. To teach it, photo copy the music for each child to have their own. Then just plunk through the notes similar to how ward choir would run. When performing, the Sr. will know the alto and the Jr. will know the melody.
