Let your Primary kids take over with this fun Let Your Primary Lead Primary singing time review activity! They’ll love getting the chance to lead the music, and they’ll quickly realize that conducting is more than just waving your arms around.
This activity is a guaranteed hit for reviewing ANY Primary songs. My own Primary children LOVE being in charge and this activity lets them do just that! Best of all … you get a mini break. A win-win!
The prep for this activity is so simple. Gather household items that children can lead with. Ideas include:
Toss them in a large bag or laundry basket to tote them to Church.

Once you explain the rules, pick your first conductor (or multiple children for large Primaries) and let them choose a conductor stick.
Sing the song as the child(ren) conduct using a conducting stick of their choice. Post the words using this flip chart format as needed.
When finished, let them choose their replacement.
Repeat with a new song and new children leading the music until everyone has had a turn and all the songs have been sung.
As needed, allow younger children to mimic your movements or let them make up their own moves! Younger children can also lead from their seat. Simply pass out all the conductor sticks and let them each take turns.

I do this activity a couple times a year. The children's favorite thing they choose is a toilet plunger. (Unused of course) They love leading with that one.
I did this today and it was a hit. It was SOOO easy, and the kids loved it! Our most popular conductors baton was a light saber. Thanks for the great idea!

Quick explanation/Q&A of the skills you need to "LEAD" the music.Be sure to include that I was called and set apart to be the music leader. Sing The Priesthood is Restored.Testify how grateful I am that the Priesthood was restored so I could receive a blessing to know how to lead the music each week.
AS above… give the kids opportunities to "lead" their favorite songs.
Conclude: Just as I gave you different tools to lead the music, Heavenly Father has restored the power of the Priesthood to Lead His children. Could a man without the Priesthood be the Bishop or the Prophet? No. I couldn't be the music leader unless a Priesthood holder called me to serve as the leader and set me apart to lead. Each of you is a Child of God and you are blessed by the priesthood. Conclude with I Am A Child of God. Tell them to listen for the words Lead Me in the song as they all help lead the music together.
