If you will be in need of an Easter singing time the last week in March, I have a great Easter Singing Time lesson that goes great with any song.  Find it HERE.  Also,  you can scroll through all of my Easter singing time lessons by clicking over on the right on “Easter” under the “Labels” section.  I will be doing an Easter activity that coincides with the 2015 March Friend Easter activity found HERE.  I’ll be tweaking it to make it more singing time-ish!  More to come!  And hopefully I get it out a little early for those looking for celebrating Easter BEFORE the holiday and not AFTER {like me!}.

  1. Sorry to hear it Brooke!

My only advice for little boys who won't sing is to make sure you are challenging them enough. And you know, they may never ever sing but if they are still able to learn the gospel and feel the spirit, it won't be a total loss. As long as they are not disruptive or disrespectful, I wouldn't worry too much about it (if they are, however…I would start pulling in parents asap!).

As for ideas about challenging them…my primary boys loved the theory lesson I taught for He Sent His Son, or they really love word scrambles (search my blog for both of those). Or even being paired with the younger kids and "helping" them.

Another thought is to involve them in ways that an adult would help you…make them your unofficial assistants. I had an 11-year old boy once who hated primary. He was silent about it but he did not participate. I loved to ask him for help and make him feel like I really needed his assistance (hanging my stuff on the board, finding my page # in my songbook, getting items out of the closet, etc.). I also made up things for him to help me with. One lesson, I brought in my camera and had him take pictures of each primary child with their picture they drew on the board. Totally unnecessary for me but he thought it was awesome. Amazingly, by the time he graduated, he would stand up front with me and sing his little heart out!

In the end, I'd say, kids love those who love them so make sure they know you love them – even if they don't deserve it!!

Sorry, this is more than you bargained for! I hope it gets better for you!

  2. I'm excited to hear what you have cooked up for Follow the Prophet. I've been gathering ideas, as well, and am trying to narrow it all down. I love your teaching style. 🙂

  3. I love that you do the scripture song/article of faith song, I want to do something like that, but how do you have time to teach the article of faith song? Does your presidency give you time during opening exercises? How does that all work for you?

  4. Hi Lauren!

I just take maybe the first 2 minutes of my singing time to go over the Article of Faith song of the month. It doesn't take much time at all. We'll just sing the song and I hold up the Article of Faith prompts. If you don't know what that is, just click on my "Article of Faith" lable over on the right. Then, there are usually 2 or 3 kids who want to pass of an article of faith so they'll go out in the hall with our counselor and pass one off during those 2 minutes as well.

    I hope that helps!

    ~Camille
