Looking for a fall singing time before delving into holiday music? Try this easy activity for learning It’s Autumntime in singing time!

I was at our local story time at the library. They passed out die cut leaves on strings to all the kids. The Primary music leader in me just KNEW it would be perfect to pull into singing time!

These leaves work well with a few fall Primary songs, It’s Autumntime, Autumn Day and Rain is Falling. The leaves are so simple to prepare. You only need a few supplies:
- laminated leaf die-cuts with a hole punched into them
- about an 8-inch string attached

If you don’t have access to leaf die cuts, these leaf printables work well too! Access these printables at my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing my Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
When we used the leaves in story time, each child got a leaf and held it by the string up high (while standing). As we sung, the leaves started falling downward, in a back-and-forth motion. We ended with the leaves resting on the ground. The kids LOVED it! What a great fall wiggle song!

Directive Listening Questions
Optionally, ask these directive listening questions:
Verse 1
- How many times did I sing “It’s Autumntime?” [4]
- Where are the leaves falling? [down]
- Where is autumn all around? [the town]
Verse 2
- What color of leaves are mentioned? [yellow, red and brown]
- What can be found? [bright colors]
- This is such a beautiful time of year. The things that make it so beautiful are the colorful autumn leaves falling.

We do the same thing! I also do the "Rain Is Falling All Around" song substituting "leaves" for rain. Nursery kids especially love these songs/leaves. Thanks for sharing all your ideas!!
