  1. Hi Camille~ In the 2 months since I got the calling, I've read many of your pages on getting started as a new primary chorister and I'm so grateful for all the helpful suggestions and lesson plans! Just wanted to say Thank you, Thank you!!
And also to ask for help with something else: our ward primary doesn't seem to know hardly any songs as they have ONLY learned the program songs for the past 4 years or so. For example, they only know 1 welcome song, 1 reverence song, 1 birthday song, etc. (They do know quite a few 'wiggle' songs) I have been doing the flip charts with the lyrics for every song but most tunes they simply have never heard before. My primary is fairly small (about 15 kids in Sr & 15 in Jr) and the presidency does their lesson first and does not usually leave me more than about 5 min or so. Max 10 min.
So, to get to my question: I'd like them to learn some core songs that are not in the program but how many new songs to learn is too many (per month)? Especially given the shortness of time they leave me each week. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi angerine!

I would suggest you read my post here:

    http://camillesprimaryideas.com/2012/02/how-to-do-it-all.html

It answers a few of your questions. But if you aren't getting your allotted 20 minutes, you will never be able to do much of what you want, let alone teach the 8 required program songs. I'd have a heart-to-heart chat with your primary president and try to get singing time to happen before sharing time. That way you will always get your 20 minutes and the presidency will be left with whatever time is remaining. If you still can't get your 20 minutes, I would go to your bishop and/or the Stake Primary presidency and address this issue with them.

I hope that helps some! Good luck!!

    ~Camille

    1. Thanks a bunch! The post you linked to was helpful. And I texted the primary president to kinda get a feel if they are open to doing Singing time before Sharing and she said they are flexible and will give it a try. Yay!
