Continue teaching the 2nd and 3rd verses to Tell Me the Stories of Jesus using an interactive storybook theme.  Your primary will love holding matching images that they can raise up every time they see that image in the storybook!

2nd and 3rd Verses Storybook

To shake things up, the storybook activity for the 2nd and 3rd verses is interactive!  Meaning, the children are actively involved as you read the story.  This is a sample of the first page of the storybook:

In order to make this interactive, or involve the primary more, have them hold matching visuals (totally optional!):

You will need enough images so every child gets to hold something.

So if you have 27 kids in primary, you will need 3 copies of the 2-page document (9 images total).  Print on card stock, laminate and cut out.  Then attach to craft sticks using packaging tape.

TIP: You can just have one of each image and let the kids take turns.

Singing Time Idea

To use in primary, review the first verse with your original storybook.  Tell the primary that there are 2 more verses to the song that are about imagining being there when the stories of Jesus took place.

Sing through the 2nd and 3rd verses using the storybook with words and pictures.  Invite teachers and children to sing along if they are able.

Pass out a visual stick to each child (the more random the visuals are dispersed, the better!).  Repeat singing through the 2nd and 3rd verses using the storybook.  When they see the picture in the storybook that matches the visual they are holding, they raise it up.  Sing through the 2nd and 3rd verses.

Trade & Repeat

Have the primary trade with their neighbor for a new visual.  Repeat singing through the storybook with new visuals.  You can pause between phrases to define difficult words if needed.

Repeat until all the children have had lots of turns to hold lots of different visuals.

For the last time, try closing the book and singing through the entire song, with children raising their visuals when they hear their corresponding phrase.

  1. I am not seeing the two page document with just the visuals to put on popsicle sticks. I see the visual storybook for verses 2-3, storybook for verse 1, the alternative flipchart, and the primary book companion visual. No just visuals without text, bummer.

    1. Hi Tori!

You are totally right – I never added the visuals to the Resource Library, ack! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ve added them now. Thank you for helping me correct that mistake.
