This singing time lesson plan activity will help reinforce the message behind the song, Choose the Right Way.

Camille's Primary Ideas: Choose the Right Way singing time lesson plan activity

Pass around a few copies of the following pages (depending on the size of your primary – you want each child to see each of the 2 papers a few times).

One sheet shows images of choosing the right:

  • Pray before bed
  • Pay tithing
  • Read your scriptures
  • get baptized
  • go to church

The other sheet shows images of not choosing the right.

  • talk during singing time
  • say a bad word when you were angry
  • be rude to friends
  • cheat on a test
  • leave your room messy

You can download these printables at my Resource Library.  Instructions for accessing them and where they are filed are at the bottom of this post.

Print on card stock and laminate (optional).

Give no instructions to the primary except to glance at the pictures on the pages and then pass them around the room.  As you are passing the sheets around the room, you and the teachers sing the song.

Turn in the sheets of paper and on the chalkboard draw a line down the middle of it.  On one side write “Right” and the other write “Wrong.”  Have the primary try to remember the images they saw and put each picture where it goes.

Repeat the activity to see what items they missed as you and the teachers sing the song again.  Adjust the items on the board as needed.

Collect the sheets of paper and have the primary sing the song again.  Post words.  Ask the children what the song talks about.  Briefly discuss a few of the items on the board and how that demonstrates choosing the right or wrong.

To make it easier for Jr. primary, you may want to ask a few children something they saw after each time the song is sung.  Write it on the chalkboard in the correct category.  .  Repeat until all 10 images are on the board.  Then proceed with the lesson plan as outlined above.

Time permitting, have the children add to the list of when they’ve chosen the right.  Sing the song in between each few answers.  Post the words as necessary like I do HERE.
