I LOVE the idea found in the September 2020 Friend for acting out the story of Samuel the Lamanite! it goes perfectly with teaching the song Samuel Tells of the Baby Jesus – either during home your home centered singing time or or at church!

Make this as simple or as elaborate as you like! You can find the link to the Friend HERE if it helps.
My thought is to embellish the idea just a little more! But if you want to keep it simple, just have everyone stand on a chair as you sing Samuel Tells of the Baby Jesus. I know my kids will jump (quite literally in this case!!) at any opportunity to get permission to stand on the furniture!
TIP: To help sing at home, make sure to use the church’s Sing Along app or the song on the church’s website HERE.
Here’s how to add a little more to it:
- Use empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls to sing through on the chorus. I’ve got more details HERE.

- Come up with actions for the verses (hold up 5 fingers for 5 years, get black and white paper representing night and day, cradle a baby with arms for the baby Jesus, look far by placing hand on forehead like you are searching, etc.)
- If you want your kids to get crafty (great for Sr. primary age kids!), this is a fun song to create puppets! Sing the song as you tell the story using the puppets. I made a felt story board, more details HERE:

- Then I also have a bell chart for this song HERE. My kids both at home and in primary LOVE the bells! If you want a great way to engage kids with primary songs, I can’t suggest getting a set of handbells enough!

More details on handbells can be found HERE.
