Camille's Primary Ideas Singing Time Lesson Plan for teaching Search, Ponder and Pray

This is a fun lesson plan that gets the kids {quite literally!} searching!  You can find my original post HERE that works great if you are in singing time!  Here’s what I suggest to modify if you are teaching virtually or home centered:

Virtually

For Jr. primary, place all the images on the board/wall at random.  Have children at home find something to “search with” which could be:

  • flashlight
  • empty toilet paper or paper towel tube
  • binoculars
  • magnifying glass
  • a piece of paper rolled and taped into a tube
  • or just their fingers ;).

Continue with the lesson plan as indicated in the original link having the children search for the next correct image, placing the images in order as they are discovered.

The Sr. lesson plan can remain the same!

Home Centered

For Jr. I suggest having families place the smaller images (prints on 1 page) around their homes and searching for them using a searching item as listed above.  How fun would it be to search a dark house for all these items?

Once found, have the children listen to the song here they put the images in order:

Repeat as many times as needed to get it correct.

Then begin to remove images to see what can be remembered.

The Sr. activities can also be completed as is!  Just make sure to send an answer key!!

Answer Key

  • Page 1: Melody Map.  Fill in the blanks using the correct words.  “I know the scriptures are true.”
  • Page 2: Phrase Chart for verses only! The first line is the first phrase, the second line is the second phrase.  Notice how the 3rd phrase has different phrasing.  Then the 4th phrase.
  • Page 3: Deciphering the Code. Each dot represents a word in the song.  The yellow dots are all the words referring to “me” including “I” and I’ll”.  The red is “love” and “heart” the blue dots are all the words that start with “S” and the green are the words that refer to Christ.
  • Page 6: Scripture Match-Up.  The scripture references are all out of order and need a line drawn to their matching phrase (which are all in order).  Draw a line from the scripture to the correct phrase.  Quickly discussing each phrase and the scripture once a match is found.  Sing the phrases after each one is matched up.  Page 10 is the answer key.
