If you are looking to feel thankful in singing time, create a Thanksgiving singing time dinner table! You can sing any songs you like with this lesson plan but I do have suggestions below.

I LOVED this idea HERE that I saw a few years ago posted on the Primary Music Leaders FB group. So I do what I do best and turned it into a lesson plan complete with printables! Yay!
I created a document that includes 10 pages of Thanksgiving dinner menu items. This is a sample page with a delicious turkey:

The images print one per page – nice and big. This way they can be seen when hung on the board/wall, especially if you are doing singing time virtually like so:

I suggest printing on card stock, cutting out, laminating and cutting out again. At least, that’s what I did! This activity is a do-the-work-once kind of activity! Create the printables and re-use them every year or so at Thanksgiving!!
LAMINATING TIP: Check out more details on my favorite laminator HERE if you need! They usually go on sale around this time of year!
Then there’s a page with the thankful items and coordinating song to sing:

Cut out each section and tape to the back of the pictures. I don’t recommend laminating these to the back. This way you can interchange the pictures in the future if you ever need to. Like I did here:

There are more thankful/song sections (13) than there are Thanksgiving dinner images (10). You’ll be lucky to get through all 10 images so pick and choose which songs you like.
So let kids pick a food, answer the question on the back and sing the song. Make sure to post the words like I do HERE, use the Sing-Along App or the music from the church’s website HERE.
Access Printables
You can access my printables at my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing my Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
The idea is simple…display the food clip art food on the board. Children pick a food. Take it down and have them (or another child or even all children so more can be involved) answer the question then sing the suggested song.
Other Options
If you really want to go all out for your dinner table, bring in actual food items (packages can even be empty!!) for your Thanksgiving Singing Time Dinner. Set a table complete with place settings and a table cloth! Here are a few food suggestions:
- Packaged turkey, turkey breast or turkey lunch meat
- Instant potatoes
- Boxed stuffing
- Gravy packet
- Green beans (fresh or canned)
- Cranberry sauce (fresh or canned)
- Yams (fresh or canned)
- Pre-made pie crust
- etc.
