Could I Hold the Baby Sheet Music and Lyrics
Download the sheet music to Could I Hold the Baby on the Church’s website. The lyrics make me wish I could have held the baby Jesus on that first Christmas night!
It’s Christmas Eve, I’m tucked in bed, I’m snug and warm, my prayers are said. I start to think about the first Christmas Night. The manger warm, the baby fair, the star that led the shepherds there, and what I’d say to Mary as she smiled at the little Christ child.
[CHORUS] Could I hold the baby? Will he smile at me? Does He know why He is born and what his life will be? Could I hold the baby and tell him of my love? How glad I am that Jesus Christ was sent from heaven above.
Now ev’ry day the whole year through I’ll think of all that I can do To be like Him and live as He showed me how. And I’ll remember that Christmas toys are not as dear as girls and boys, that Jesus loves each one of us endlessly. He loves you and me.
Create a Nativity Scene Puzzle
Find a picture of a nativity scene to create a puzzle for each of your Primary classes. I particularly like this Nativity Scene from the Church’s website:
Download it, print on card stock, laminate, and cut out puzzle-size pieces. Place in envelopes.
TIP: For Sr. Primary classes, cut puzzle pieces smaller thus creating a harder puzzle. For Jr. Primary classes, cut puzzle pieces larger thus creating an easier puzzle.
If you want to create a really nice puzzle, use the same image above to create a personalized puzzle (Amazon affiliate link):
For My Primary of about 20, I ordered 2 puzzles – one for Sr. that is 70 pieces and one for Jr. that is 35 pieces. Then I’ll also make a 2 puzzles on card stock for a few Jr. Primary classes.
Could I Hold the Baby Singing Time Idea
For singing time, play the sing along video on a tv/phone+speaker on repeat:
Have classes sit on the floor in small circles and put their puzzles together as they listen to the song. When puzzles are complete, ask the following questions:
- Would you ask Mary to hold the baby Jesus?
- What would you tell the baby Jesus?
- Do you think he knew what lay ahead?
- What does His birth mean to you?
- What was Jesus’ life like?
- What are some of the things Jesus did in His life?
- How can we show our love for Jesus today?
Play the video again and sing along.
Bear testimony that you know Jesus Christ was born. Because of His birth, we can return to live with Heavenly Father again.
