This year, Easter falls on the first Sunday in April which is also General Conference.  So there’s really no wrong time to recognize Easter in singing time!  There’s a fantastic activity from the Friend that easily adapts into an Easter themed singing time lesson plan!

Camille's Primary Ideas: He Is Risen! Easter Singing Time from The Friend

One of my favorite finds are activities from the Friend magazine to incorporate into singing time.  And the March 2021 Friend’s Easter activity entitled He Is Risen! makes for a perfect singing time lesson plan.

The instructions say to simply cut out the squares to create a little Easter booklet.  Then I added a Primary song that coincides with each page:

I took each image and enlarged them so each square fits on one sheet of paper (8 total pages).  Then I also added a related Primary song:

This is optional for children to have their own copy.  They can cut them out and string them together to create a book to take home.

If using the full size sheets, simply place one page on the board, read what it says then sing the song.  Post the words using this flip chart format.

Additional Movement

To provide additional (and optional) movement as you sing each song, consider some of these activities:

He Is Risen! Booklet

If using the booklet, pass out a copy to each child.  Let them cut out the squares, create holes in each square then tie them together using string.

TIP: to easily make a hole, place squares on the carpet or something soft and push a sharp pencil or pen punch through each hole.

As children create their own books, you and the teachers sing the songs in the booklet with the piano (post the words as needed), or play this He Is Risen! Youtube playlist on a phone + speaker.

The songs included are:

  1. Hosanna p. 67
  2. Beautiful Savior p. 63
  3. Jesus Said Love Everyone p. 61
  4. To Think about Jesus p. 71
  5. Gethsemane
  6. He Died That We Might Live Again p. 65
  7. Did Jesus Really Live Again? P. 64
  8. Jesus Has Risen p. 70

Once children’s books are complete, read together the inscriptions on each.

Bear Testimony

Bear testimony that you know Jesus died and was resurrected.  And that he lives today!
