I have been using a music bag in singing time for YEARS! It’s seriously my favorite grab ‘n go lesson plan! Now with singing time being more home centered, I have used my primary bag with my own primary-age kids at home more than ever! Singing time in a bag has made singing primary songs at home SO quick, simple and FUN!

Honestly, I never really thought to give bag with similar items to all the primary kids! Then I ran across the idea suggested HERE on the Primary Music Leader’s FB page. I guess it’s what a lot of primaries are doing and I think it’s BRILLIANT!
If your primary has room in their budget, I would HIGHLY suggest putting together “Singing Time in a Bag” for all your kiddos! With Easter around the corner, it might make for a really useful Easter gift from the primary (especially since all those Easter eggs will be on sale)!
The bags can come in handy to have families use on their own OR so kids can participate with you during your virtual singing time lessons!
Create a Song List
To begin creating your bags, start off with a list of songs. The items you include in your bag will be determined by what is on your song list. The sky is the limit with what songs to add. Here’s what’s on mine:

Each song has either a prop to hold or actions. You can find more details on my Music Bag HERE (either to create your own or I do sell a pre-made bag). My bag is catered to be used by Primary Music Leaders especially given the amount of each item. Your Singing Time in a Bag that you give to kids will most likely only have one of each prop instead of a dozen or so.
Other items to include
I have a list HERE of the top 9 BEST singing time props to buy. A few of these would be wonderful to add to your bag!

Obviously you aren’t going to buy each child a laminator 😉 but scarves and a Gospel Art Book would be wonderful additions!!
Other Suggestions I’ve seen include:
- Article of Faith Cards or prompts (check out my post HERE)
- Paper plates (for the primary song Smiles HERE)
- Red solo cups
- Flip charts to color (check out my post HERE)
- Dice
- Pool noodles – cut to make rhythm instruments
- Mirror for I Am a Child of God
- Digital Playlist (check it out HERE)
- Kazoos
Put all the items in some type of bag – a brown paper bag, mesh bag, gift bag, reusable shopping bag, etc! You really can’t go wrong!
And that’s that! Make sure to include your primary presidency and teachers in creating your Singing Time in a Bag bag. Many hands make light work! You and the presidency can put them all together, then you could pass them out to teachers to pass out to their classes as an option.
I’d love to hear if you have more ideas on items to include, types of bags you use, etc.! Leave a comment as you might help others out!!
