Because the beat to this hymn is strong and steady, I recommend using maracas as you teach it.  Not only do maracas emphasize the beat, but they get your Primary’s large muscle groups moving, thus increasing their engagement level.

Have I Done Any Good In the World Today Lyrics and Music

Find the sheet music to Have I Done Any Good? on the Church’s website.  This hymn asks such poignant questions!

Have I done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad? If not, I have failed indeed. Has anyone’s burden been lighter today Because I was willing to share? Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? When they needed my help was I there?

[Chorus] Then wake up and do something more Than dream of your mansion above. Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure, A blessing of duty and love.

There are chances for work all around just now, Opportunities right in our way. Do not let them pass by, saying, “Sometime I’ll try,” But go and do something today. ’Tis noble of man to work and to give; Love’s labor has merit alone. Only he who does something helps others to live. To God each good work will be known.

[Chorus]

Create a list of service activities children can act out such as:

  • Sweeping the floor
  • Wiping the counter
  • Mowing the lawn
  • Washing the car
  • Walking the dog
  • Holding a baby
  • Weeding the garden
  • Making a bed
  • Dusting a table
  • Hugging a friend
  • Picking up toys

Place the activities on pieces of paper and into a bowl or bag for children to draw from.

Have a child (or 2 children) draw a piece of paper and act out the service activity they drew as the rest of the Primary sings the song.

After singing, have the Primary guess the service.  Whoever guesses correctly, gets to come act out an act of service.  Repeat until all children have had a turn to act out a service.
