In lieu of teaching When He Comes Again yet again this year, I thought I’d branch out. The primary song, Shine On is one of the suggested songs in Come Follow Me – Primary for this week. Seeing I’ve never taught it before, it will be a nice change!

I’ll be honest, I’m not completely familiar with Shine On. But am excited to teach something new! I love it’s melody and message!
My lesson plan comes from the singing time idea that was shared on Singing Time with Sister Taylor’s YouTube channel here (thank you!!):
Attention Getter
In the YouTube video, Sister Taylor discusses Sister Cordon’s General Conference talk about Elder Perry and the chickens. The talk is summarized in the October 2017 Friend HERE.
I suggest reading or paraphrasing the story to your primary. You may want to display the picture in the story as you tell it. Explain to the children that we need to be a light to others to help lead them to Christ.

Activity
For the activity, you will need the flip chart from ldschoristers.com found HERE (also found on my Resource Library). You also need a flashlight (or a few depending on the size of your primary).
Finger lights might also fun for this activity! Finger lights are pretty versatile in singing time as I used them for this activity HERE.

I bought mine from here (Amazon affiliate link):
Hang the flip chart around the primary room, out of order. Have the children listen as you and the primary teachers sing the song with the lights dimmed. Post the words as needed like I do HERE.

As the song is sung by you and the teachers, have a child (or a few or all) find the correct flip chart page using the flashlights or finger lights. Repeat a few times with new children until each child has had a turn with the lights.
Time permitting, go through each phrase together as you and teachers sing it first, then the primary repeats it back to you. Have someone from each group (teachers and primary kids) light up the flip chart page as it’s their turn to sing.
Bear testimony of the importance of being a light to the world, or in other words, being a good example so others want to come to know Jesus Christ through you.
Home Centered
If singing time is home centered for your primary, simply share Sister Cordon’s story and the flip chart. I created a one-page flip chart to cut down on printing:

Also available to download and print from my Resource Library.
Have families complete the activity as indicated above using flashlights as they listen to the YouTube video here:
