Our Bishop is a perfect song for Father’s Day! Celebrate the father of your ward in singing time by learning this simple primary song.

Attention Getter:
Post words to the song leaving out the phrase “he’s our bishop”. Use the flip chart HERE covering up the words “he’s our bishop” with black paper. Or I typed up the words with the phrase missing:

Access my printables at my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing my Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
Have the primary guess who the song is about as you and the teachers sing it without singing the missing phrase. Once guessed, reveal a picture of a bishop (LOVE this one by Susan Fitch HERE), or of your bishop.
Another idea is to invite your bishop to singing time and ask him to come up front. He can quickly discuss all the things he does for your ward. And also how he can help primary children. The Bishop can then sit down ;).

Sing the song again and ask how many times we sing “he’s our bishop” [3 in each verse or 6 total].
Activity:
Post the bell chart on the board:

This is also available to download at my Resource Library. If you are unfamiliar with using handbells in primary, make sure to check out my post HERE.
The handbells only play every time the phrase “he’s our bishop” is sung. Those without handbells sing. Repeat until each child has had a turn to play the bells.
No Handbells No Problem
If you don’t have handbells, simply divide the primary into 2 groups by using my Review Necklaces to determine the groups. One group sings “he’s our bishop” and the other group sings the rest of the words. Find more details on my Review Necklaces HERE.

Once learned, have your bishop stand amongst the children as they sing to him.
Bear testimony that you know the bishop loves each primary child in your ward! If they ever need help, they can always talk to him.
Home Centered
If your primary is home centered, you can easily adapt this lesson plan! Simply share the YouTube video here (or use the Gospel for Kids app – more details on that HERE):
Then simply have the children fill in the blanks:
1. Busy as a man can be,
___ ___ ______
He finds time to talk to me;
___ ___ ______
Always kindly words he’ll say
To the children ev’ry day.
Let us help him ev’ry way;
___ ___ ______2. Cheerful as he serves the Lord,
___ ___ ______
He’s the father of our ward;
___ ___ ______
He helps us to do the right
In our Heav’nly Father’s sight.
We love him with all our might;
___ ___ ______

I don’t understand the note chart. I bought the 8 bells set, so how do I play sharps? Do I need to add another set?
Hi Jennifer!
Yes, you need the set of sharps in order to play this bell chart. You can try omitting the sharps but it won’t sound right.
