If you know me, then you know how much I love using handbells in singing time! The suggested song for December is Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and I have a bell chart coming soon for that song! And Christmas is my FAVORITE time to use them!
In December, I have several activities incorporating handbells in singing time! So if your primary doesn’t own a set, I HIGHLY recommend that you get one!
How to Use Handbells
I have a post HERE for using handbells in singing time. It details what I recommend you purchase, where to get them and how I use them.

Merry Bells is my favorite for a basic set!
UPDATE: The sale has been extended through Monday, November 29th!! On Friday, November 26th from 12:00 am – 12:00 pm, get a free DVD (a $14.95 value!!) for every bell set ordered. No coupon needed!
Camille’s Primary Ideas readers can get 10% off by using coupon code cpi10off at checkout. Order yours HERE.
Brad, the owner of Merry Bells has a digital download for I Will Walk with Jesus. It will be available in the near future. This song is suggested several times next year (find more details on 2022 Music for Singing Time HERE).
I use handbells throughout the year in singing time, not just at Christmas. Scroll through all of my singing time lesson plans that incorporate handbells HERE.

Let me know if you have any questions about getting your primary a set of handbells!

Hello Camille:
I currently have a good set of 8 handbells (key of C) and am looking for a set of 12 chromatic bells. Can you recommend any? Thanks.

Thank you very much!
You bet!
Camille!
Is the one set of 8 bells all you use for your primary? And you just pick 8 volunteers?
Also- I noticed there are some on Amazon that sell the bells for half the price of the Merry Bells ($20 instead of $40), but I’m worried that the colors won’t match up with all of your visual cues if they are color coded differently… or that they might not be the same pitches. What are your thoughts? meg.m.yates@gmail.com

Hi Megan!
I use a 20-bell set, one that includes sharps and octaves. I don’t really use octaves but it gives a chance for more kids to play the bells at the same time. Typically, not all the bells are played in a particular song.
The bell set you referenced looks like the notes match the Merry Bells and Kidsplay brand. They would totally work with my note charts and the Merry Bells DVD’s. As for quality, I’m sure they are cheaper but they’d definitely work!

Thanks Camille!
