Maybe it’s the primary music leader in me, but I LOVE bringing music into my kids’ school classroom! Especially during their holiday class parties – it’s such a unique and fun activity!! So volunteer for your child’s next Halloween class party using these Halloween themed music ideas!

If you don’t have handbells, don’t worry! You can do most of these suggested activities without bells! But be warned … the handbells are the best part!
When helping in classrooms, the best set up is to break the class into small rotation groups. This way you get a smaller group for 15-20 minutes then they rotate to another station. You head up the music station which is the most fun, in my opinion! And if kids don’t sing, don’t worry! They will be engaging with the songs in a variety of ways!
Group stations that other volunteers can lead include:
- Reading Halloween books
- Decorating and eating a Halloween treat
- Halloween craft
- Games and other activities
Here’s what songs I recommend you teach:
Hinges
If you know me, you know how much I LOVE singing Hinges using my paper plate skeleton around Halloween! The kids love to try and bend and twist into the skeleton’s shape! Check out my post HERE.

It's Autumntime
The next song I recommend singing in the classroom is Autumntime. It perfectly describes several colors found in the fall! Find that lesson plan HERE.

Get yourself some leaves on strings. Then teach and repeat the actions several times. I have clip art leaves available in my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing my Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
Use the Gospel for Kids app again on your phone + speaker. Or play the music HERE. When you’ve done the actions several times, bust out the handbells!
Using Handbells

If you are unfamiliar with handbells, check out my post here HERE with lots more details on purchasing handbells (along with a discount coupon code) and using handbells in general.
Once you have handbells, download my bell charts. My bell charts are also located in my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing my Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
My bell chart for It’s Autumntime does require an A# which is not part of the basic handbell set. So make sure you have the add-on handbell set in addition to the basic set. Or, you can simply omit this one note when playing it.

Post the words
Then post the words (especially if you’ve got kids who can read). If the kids don’t want to sing along, no problem. But at least this way they can if they like. You can find the words to print on my Posting Words page HERE. Simply hang the words on the board, right next to your bell charts.

You are now set to teach a music themed Halloween activity complete with movement and engagement. And the best part…no added candy!
Valentine's Day Class Party
I also like to bring in handbells during Valentine’s Day class parties. Check out my post HERE with more details!
If you have something unique that you do for class parties (particularly something that’s musical), I’d love to hear! Leave a comment with your ideas!!
