This A Song of Thanks Primary Singing Time Idea incorporates simple key words, pictures and optional handbells! It’s wonderful to sing around Thanksgiving or any time you want to teach about all the blessings Heavenly Father has given us.
I love to use handbells in Primary but if your Primary doesn’t have handbells, don’t worry! I have a variation for teaching this Primary song using similar visuals just without handbells.

A Song of Thanks Printable
To teach this song, you need 4 images that represent 4 major keywords found in A Song of Thanks:
- World
- Food
- Birds
- Everything
I created this printable using those 4 keywords, illustrations from Susan Fitch and handbell chords:

The notes on each page are chords. Those 3 chord notes are to be played at the same time that the keyword on the page is sung. For example, when “world” is sing, the noes C E and A# all ring.
However, if you don’t have handbells, use the same printables that do not include handbells:

Access these printables at my Resource Library. Instructions for accessing the Resource Library are found at the bottom of this post.
A Song of Thanks Flip Chart
Post the words as needed using A Song of Thanks flip chart.

A Song of Thanks Singing Time Idea
With handbells:
Print the 4 printables that include handbells. Pass out handbells and have children ring the 3 bell notes when the keyword on that page is sung in the song.
Those without handbells can sing. Repeat with new ringers and new singers. Post the words as needed using this flip chart format.

Without handbells:
Print the 4 pages that do not include handbells. Create actions for each phrase found in the song:
- Thank thee for the world so sweet: Make a large circle with arms to represent a world
- Thank thee for the food we eat: mimic eating food with hands
- Thank thee for the birds that sing: cross thumbs together to create “wings” with hands and make them flap
- Thank thee, God, for ev’rything: hold arms out to represent everything
Divide the children into 4 groups, having each group sing one phrase while performing the associated action. Post the words as needed. Rearrange groups and repeat until each child has been in each group.
Bear Testimony
Bear testimony that we need to remember to thank Heavenly Father for all our blessings.
