When the song The Miracle by Shawna Edwards was published in the Friend, I INSTANTLY fell in love with it! It’s a perfect fit for singing time this year as we study the New Testament!

Featured in The Friend
The Miracle by Shawna Edwards was featured in the June 2018 Friend magazine HERE. However, the best link to print the music is HERE.
Also available on Shawna Edward’s website HERE is the full music score that is available for free by joining her newsletter. Scroll down to the “Let’s Connect” section and fill out your information. It will then be emailed to you.
In regards to The Miracle, Shawna Shared HERE:
I just wanted to leave a note of thanks to everyone who is teaching ”THE MIRACLE.” When I wrote the song for my own Primary, I didn’t think anyone else would ever even hear it. I’m grateful for every child who’s singing it!
If you are unfamiliar with The Miracle, make sure to watch the sing-along video here:
Or watch it on the church’s sing-along page HERE.

Scarf Action Notes
These are my notes from the video above:
Chorus
- Jesus: point to each palm with opposite middle finger
- God: left hand extended, begins at mid chest then makes a candy cane shape toward body, ending at forehead
- Miracles: palms face away from body and in front of head push forward then move downward and push forward again
- Nothing: create an O shape with fingers and thumb on each hand and draw them in sideways circles
- Impossible: hold hand flat, palm up and tap twice with other hand with the pinky and thumb extended
- Him: left hand extended, begins at mid chest then makes a candy cane shape toward body, ending at forehead
- Know: tap temple
- Miracles: palms face away from body and in front of head push forward then move downward and push forward again
- Incredible: make a claw shape with hand and circle around face
- Miracle: palms face away from body and in front of head push forward then move downward and push forward again
- Rescues: fists crossed over heart then uncross at shoulders
- Me: touch chest using pointer finger
1st Verse
- Jesus walked upon the water: move scarf up and down to resemble waves
- He stilled the storm and calmed the angry sea: infinity sign
- With his hands he healed the leper: wrap scarf around hand then unwrap
- He made the lame to walk the blind to see: hold the ends the scarf horizontal with both hands then use to cover eyes
- He fed a thousand people with a loaf or two of bread: crumple scarf in hands and act as if distributing it
- And when the ruler’s daughter died: cover hand with scarf to resemble a death bed
- He raised her from the dead: remove scarf it then raise arm, then drop scarf to prepare for chorus
2nd Verse
- Jesus bled and died to save me: cover hand with scarf and lay it down to resemble dying
- A price that I could never pay alone: Pull scarf from arm resembling a bag as if giving money
- When he rose again, he gave me: pull scarf out of the other hand
- The greatest gift the world has ever known: create a rainbow shape overhead
- Yes I can be forgiven every time that I repent: place scarf over hands, palms touching as if praying
- And someday he will lift me up to live with him again: toss scarf into the air and catch it, then drop it to prepare for chorus
Singing Time Idea
To introduce the song, demonstrate the scarf and simplified ASL actions as you and the teachers sing with the piano (or demonstrate using the sing along video). Make sure to post the words as needed like I do HERE.

With the piano, begin teaching the chorus using the simplified ASL actions without scarves. Once the chorus is learned, pass out scarves and teach the scarf actions to the 1st and 2nd verses.
Miracle Videos
Time permitting, or over the course of several weeks, read or watch New Testament stories HERE containing the miracles found in the verses including:
- Jesus Walks on the Water
- Jesus Commands the Winds and the Waves
- The Ten Lepers
- The Man Who Could Not Walk
- Jesus Heals a Blind Man
- Jesus Feeds 5,000
- Jairus’s Daughter is Raised from the Dead
- Jesus is Crucified
- Jesus Is Risen
Then in between each few videos, do the actions.

Watching Videos

My post HERE goes into detail on how I show videos and/or sing along videos in singing time.
Bear Testimony
Bear testimony that of all the miracles Jesus performed while on earth, the greatest miracle is the atonement which makes it possible for us to return to live with Heavenly Father and our families again.

Hello! I’m having a hard time getting The Miracle primary music sheets (where it can printed on 2 pages, instead of both on one page tiny). Shawna Edwards site only sends a new recomposed adult version. 😕
