When teaching something as intangible as faith, it’s always a great idea to include something tangible! Just like the 1st verse talks about faith being like a little seed, continue on with that thought by planting seeds when teaching the 2nd verse of Faith!

Supplies to Plant Seeds
Each child will go home with their own little seed to watch grow. You need the following supplies:
- Sealable sandwich bag for each child with “faith is” written on each one using a Sharpie marker
- Paper towels or napkins, enough for each child, folded to fit inside bags
Shallow bowl(s) of water - Dry beans or seeds, enough for each child, in a bowl or bag
Singing Time Idea
Tell the primary that the 2nd verse says that faith is knowing 4 components about the plan of salvation. Have them listen to the components as you and the teachers sing the song. Post words as needed like I do HERE.

Sing each phrase as they are discovered (in order):
- Faith is knowing I lived with God before my mortal birth.
- Faith is knowing I can return when my life ends on earth.
- Faith is trust in God above; in Christ, who showed the way.
- Faith is strengthened; I feel it grow whenever I obey.
Read Alma 32:21
Faith is likened to a seed in the scriptures. Read Alma 32:21:
And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.
Ask if believing in the plan of salvation requires faith [Yes!].
Tell the children that you can grow plants from a seed. Pass out bags that say “faith is” to each child. Sing the 1st phrase of the 2nd verse.
Pass out a paper towel or napkin to each child, the 2nd component. Sing the 1st and 2nd phrases of the 2nd verse.
Show the bowl of water. If your primary size allows, have children dip their paper towel in the bowl(s) using teacher’s assistance and place it in their bag.
TIP: For large primaries, demonstrate how to wet the paper towel and instruct children to wet it at home. Sing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd phrases of the 2nd verse.
Lastly, pass out a dry bean or seed, the 4th component. Place it in the bag and zip it tight. Sing the entire 2nd verse.
Instruct the children to go home and place their bag in a window that gets sunshine and watch it grow throughout the coming weeks. Explain that in order for the plan of salvation to work, we need Heavenly Father’s SON!
Bear Testimony
Bear testimony of the plan of salvation referred to in this verse and how it takes faith to believe it is true.
