What's a Temple Activity
Catherine shared her idea HERE reinforcing the idea of what is a temple? She shared:

I started by announcing, “I’m going to sing a song for you. Listen closely because there will be a quiz.” After singing the first verse of “The Lord Gave Me a Temple,”
I turned the board around to reveal these pictures and said, “I’m going to sing it again—sing with me when you’re ready.
Some of these pictures are temples and some aren’t. Raise your hand when you are ready to move a picture to the right place.”
We sang the verse four or five times while the kids sorted the pictures (one child/picture at a time).
All of the pictures of kids ended up in the “Not Temples” column. Then one boy said, “I don’t think that’s right! The song tells us that our body is a temple so the kids should be on that side.”
Success! We made our adjustments as we sang the song again and then sang it once more for good measure.

More Singing Time Ideas
Primary Singing has various ways to teach The Lord Gave Me a Temple.

The Lord Gave Me a Temple Song History
This information comes from Stories from The Children’s Songbook by Sister Pat Graham.
The song was originally written for Sing With Me. The composer, Darwin Wolford, revised the beginning pitch, changed the key, and simplified the accompaniment.
He also suggested that the original second verse of Brother Hunter’s poem be considered, which had not been used previously. The verse seemed vital for this generation and was included to strengthen children against substance abuse.
