Teach Primary children what it means to walk along the covenant path using this singing time idea! It’s a perfect fit for a 5th Sunday, after the Primary program or any time during the year!
I love that this singing time lesson plan associates how to walk along the covenant path to familiar Primary songs. Thus making the concept of walking along the covenant path even more memorable and relatable to children!

The idea is adapted from the August 2023 Friend magazine special edition: Baptism & Confirmation.
To cater it to singing time, I’ve enlarged each bubble item with its picture. Then I’ve added relating Primary songs from 2023’s Suggested Music for Singing Time.
Walk Along the Covenant Path Printables
Each item found along the path is a half size printable. Each printable includes a relating Primary song and New Testament scripture. There are 12 items (6 pages 2 items per page) found along this path.

Set Up the Covenant Path Activity
To recreate this covenant path on the board, simply draw a path on the board using markers or chalk. Just make sure it’s long enough to hold the 12 half size sheets of paper. Use the example page as your guide:

This example page is also available to download in the Resource Library.
Optionally, draw some additional trees and houses as found in the example. Write “The Covenant Path” along the top of the board.
Walk the Covenant Path Singing Time Idea
Tell the Primary that walking along the covenant path means preparing to make a covenant and then keep that covenant for a lifetime. There are many things we must do to move forward along the covenant path.
- Hang page 1 at the beginning of the path (similar to the example)
- Read and quickly discuss
- Sing the song
- Repeat with all the pages, gradually adding the next pages along the path to resemble the example page
TIP: if short on time, alternate reading the scripture with singing the song.
Use flip charts to post the words as needed.
