Review any Primary songs with this quick and easy body rhythm review singing time activity! Your Primary will sing any song over and over again as they create new movement patterns. Make the patterns as simple or as difficult as you like!
I love how this activity challenges your Primary children’s minds! They get to create, then follow various body rhythm patterns – all while unknowingly singing the same songs over and over again. It’s brilliant!
I wish I could take credit for this clever activity but Kim is actually the mastermind! She shared her idea on the Primary Leader’s FB group:
I introduce a basic 3 or 4 beat rhythm the first time (depending on the song) and we sing through the song with that rhythm. Then I let 3 or 4 kids come up and each choose a card to put up on the board creating a new rhythm (or do this yourself if you don’t want to pick kids). We practice the rhythm a couple times before using it in our song. Sing again, then select new cards. Super fun and such an easy way to sing through it multiple times!I printed out four of each action on card stock and laminated since they will be handled a lot. I added peel and stick magnets to the back so they go up quick and easy.

Body Rhythm Review Singing Time Idea
Review or sing any songs. Depending on the song’s time signature determines how many cards will be used. Use:
- 4 cards for 4/4
- 3 cards for 3/4
- 2 or 4 cards for 2/4
- 3 or 6 cards for 6/8 (recommend 3)
Have 3 or 4 kids choose a card to put up on the board creating a rhythm pattern. Practice the rhythm a few times before using it in your song.
Sing the song using the chosen body rhythm pattern. Repeat by selecting new cards with new songs or new verses.

Fun & easy. Love it. Thanks!
This sounds so fun! I will try it this Sunday!
I paired images of these actions with each word so Junior Primary could join in the fun easier :o)

Thumbs? Like hit your thumbs together?
Caitlin, the thumbs go up and over your shoulders. I hope that clarifies.

What is the slap action?
Hi Robyn,
It should say "snap." Sorry for the typo, I've corrected it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
