What better way to ask, “Heavenly Father, are you really there?” then with an actual phone? Thus relating prayer to our way of communicating with Heavenly Father. Use simple whisper phones to teach A Child’s Prayer in singing time!

Whisper phones usefulness is two-fold: teach a child how to communicate to Heavenly Father through prayer AND let them listen to themselves sing their part of the song!

Kim shared her idea of using prayer phones to teach A Child’s Prayer! Kim says::

[The] Primary held these to their ears and sang into the phones. When you sing into the mouth end, you hear your voice clearly on the ear end.

Whisper Phones

For this activity, you need some sort of “phone.”  There are a few options.  The first one (and what I recommend) are these whisper phones (Amazon affiliate link):

Or you can use these pop tube fidget toys (Amazon affiliate link):

Just beware of their noise factor when using in singing time ;).

The last option is to create phones using PVC Pipe:

To make them, you need 3/4 inch PVC pipe cut to 3.5 inch lengths with 90° elbows attached to both ends. Optionally, you can cover the exposed PVC pipe with decorative duct tape.

Pass out a whisper phone to each child.  Have the children whisper into their phone: “Heavenly Father, are you really there?”

Quickly discuss that we don’t speak with Heavenly Father through actual phones. He doesn’t need one to hear us! In fact, we don’t even have to speak for him to hear our thoughts.

Post the words using this flip chart format as needed.

Sing the entire song using the phones. Afterward ask if they could hear their voices clearly.

Divide the children into 2 groups, having each group sing both verses together. Then combine having one group sing the first verse and the other group sing the second verse.

Afterward, have teachers clean with a disinfectant wipe.

Bear Testimony

Bear testimony that Heavenly Father hears and answers each of our prayers. Even though the answers may not be what or when we expect.
