My favorite method for using custom playlists and QR codes is with digital playlists!  Our Primary gifts a digital playlist for Christmas that contains all of the upcoming year’s suggested songs.

I also love using digital playlists for Easter:

How to Create a Custom YouTube Playlist

If you want to customize and create your own digital playlist, you first need to create your playlist.  Playlists typically contain a variety of videos that relate to each other in some way.  See the above links for examples (Book of Mormon Primary songs, Easter songs, Christmas songs, baptism songs, etc).

Currently, the best platform for creating shareable playlists is YouTube.  The Church’s apps (including Gospel for Kids, and Sacred Music) don’t currently support shareable playlists (which is a total bummer and hopefully becomes a feature!).

Once you have your list of songs, save each one to a playlist.  Do this by Clicking on the “Save” button on the lower right hand corner of the video.

Choose a playlist you already made or click the “+” button to create a new playlist.  Repeat with all the videos you want added to your playlist.

Unable to Save a Video to a Playlist

Occasionally, you run into the problem where the save button is grayed out preventing that video from being able to be saved to a playlist.  Like this example:

But don’t worry – there is a workaround!  Simply search the video using YouTube’s search bar to find the video you are looking for:

Then click on the 3 dots over on the right side which will reveal an option to “Save to playlist”:

Then you can continue on as normal.

How to Create a Custom QR Code

Once you have your playlist created, you now need to create a custom QR code.  The playlist you created will have a unique URL.  There are 2 ways to do this.

One is to simply right click anywhere on your screen (on a laptop or desktop) and click “create QR Code for this page.

A QR code is automatically created.  Download it to your device then insert it into any document you want.

Or you can create a manual QR code.  This method gives you a little more control over how your QR code looks.

Sometimes I don’t want the little dinosaur image, or I want it to say “SCAN ME,” etc.  So if you want a more customized QR code, follow these instructions:

Copy your playlist URL :

Then paste that URL into any free QR code generator.  My favorites are:

Follow the instructions to create your QR code.  This example below uses QR Code Generator.

Paste your YouTube URL into the section, choose the frame with any other feature to include in your QR code (shape & color, logo) and download.
