I teach Latter-day Prophets in singing time every year before April General Conference, and it’s always a hit! These ideas have never let me down, and I know they’ll work for you too!

This information comes from Stories from The Children’s Songbook by Sister Pat Graham.
Concerning the origin of her poem, “Latter-day Prophets,” she related, “One very dedicated and concerned mother came to me. . . and asked me to write a song so her daughter could remember the names of the prophets. . . .
I knelt down and poured out my heart to my Father in Heaven [in thanks] for my many blessings. I also asked him to help me write a little song to help this girl.
At the close of my prayer the words to the first line of the song came: `Latter-day prophets are: number one, Joseph Smith, then Brigham Young,’ with the impression, ‘I have given you the first line, you write the rest
Find the sheet music to Latter-day Prophets on the Church’s website. The lyrics are simply the names of the prophets with a few extra words is all:
Latter-day prophets are: number one, Joseph Smith; then Brigham Young; John Taylor came third, we know; Then Wilford Woodruff; Lorenzo Snow; Joseph F. Smith (remember the F); Heber J. Grant; and George Albert Smith; David O. McKay was followed by Joseph Fielding Smith, Then Harold B. Lee, Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson, Howard W. Hunter. Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, Russell M. Nelson and Dallin H. Oaks.

Latter-day Prophets is the PERFECT song to teach using actions! While you’re learning the order of the prophets, you are also learning a little bit about the lives of each of them!
Use these coloring pages in conjunction with the actions above, or simply use them on their own! Assign each child a prophet to color while they listen to the song.
Then let each present their prophet complete with a picture and a few details they learned about them.
Help your Primary children grow their love for our latter-day prophets while singing Latter-day Prophets while using handbells! They’ll be so excited for a turn to ring that they’ll want to sing it again and again all while learning every name without even realizing it.

Melissa shared on the PML FB group her cup stacking activity for teaching Latter-day Prophets. She said:
I made a stack for each class. I’ll mix them up and have them try to put them in order while I sing it a few times through.
I’ll do it again, challenging them to do it quicker. (I put numbers on them for the 3 youngest classes because I think it will be a big challenge for them).
