Amazing Grace has such a beautiful melody. The melody map activity below is my favorite because it emphasizes that melody.

…Amazing Grace” is one of many hymns that Newton wrote and included in his sermons. Verse 1 reminds us of Nephi’s anguished cry: “O wretched man that I am!” Then, remembering the Lord’s mercy, Nephi added, “My soul will rejoice in thee, my God” (2 Nephi 4:17, 30). The text of this hymn was included in an early hymnbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1841.
Find the sheet music to Amazing Grace on the Church’s website. The lyrics of Amazing Grace poetically describe how God’s grace can save us, help us find our way, and guide us through difficult times:
Amazing grace—how sweet the sound— That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.
The Lord has promised good to me; His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come. His grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.

The night before Jesus died, he did something very special. It was something that only He could do, and nobody else.

He went to a garden called Gethsemane and he thought about everybody who ever lived on Earth. He thought about me, and He thought about every single one of you.
That saved a wretch like me!
He didn’t just think about us. He felt every sad or bad feeling that we ever would have. He felt what it was like to be scared and alone.
I once was lost, but now am found,
He felt what it was like being confused when you don’t know where to go or what to do.
Was blind, but now I see.
Even though he was perfect, he learned what it was like to make bad mistakes that you could not fix.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come.
After he felt all of these things in the garden, the next day he died and then later came back to life on Easter. By being willing to go through all these things for us, he can help us with a special loving power called grace.
His grace has brought me safe thus far,
When we choose to follow Him, He promises to use His grace to help us return to live with him.
And grace will lead me home.
