Rita S. Robinson’s [the composer] father died when she was three years old. Although her mother was not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she sent Rita to meetings because the Church had been important to her father.
After graduating with honors from the University of Utah, Rita taught school and later worked as a master welder for the Navy during World War II.
She published twenty-seven songs for children in a collection called I Like to Sing.
Find the sheet music to Saturday on the Church’s website. Your Primary will easily catch on to this song’s catchy beat and easy-to-remember lyrics:
Saturday is a special day. It’s the day we get ready for Sunday: We clean the house, and we shop at the store, So we won’t have to work until Monday. We brush our clothes, and we shine our shoes, And we call it our get-the-work-done day. Then we trim our nails, and we shampoo our hair, So we can be ready for Sunday.
