My favorite way to engage with this beloved Primary song is by using pictures of the temple in a wide variety of ways!

This information comes from Stories from The Children’s Songbook by Sister Pat Graham.
As a child, Janice Kapp Perry [author and composer] loved to travel to the Idaho Falls Temple to do baptisms for the dead. “I Love to See the Temple” reflects her feelings on those trips.
Now she lives in Provo, Utah, and can see the temple from her home. After her tiny baby died, she was especially grateful that their family had been sealed. She is reminded of that blessing every time she sees the spire of the temple.
She said, “The temple always gives me comfort because our sealing there ensures we will have that child again in eternity if we are worthy.’56
The song was first printed in Supplement to More Songs, 1982 edition, and included an introduction. It was also published in the children’s sacrament meeting presentation.
Find the sheet music to I Love to See the Temple on the Church’s website. The simplicity of the lyrics convey the feelings of a child as they anticipate attending the temple one day:
I love to see the temple.
I’m going there someday
To feel the Holy Spirit,
To listen and to pray.
For the temple is a house of God,

Our Primary and nursery sings I Love to See the Temple quite often! My favorite way (probably because it’s the easiest!) is to have the kids hold a picture of the temple as we sing.

Another great and simple idea was to build a Post-It note temple! In a nutshell, build a temple by passing out a “brick” (square Post-It notes) to the kids. Good singers come up and add their brick to build the temple. They can build it pretty much any way they like! When it’s finished, top it with an Angel Moroni!

Let children “SEE” various temples through these unique tubes as you sing I Love to See the Temple. They’ll love holding them up to the light to see all the different temple and other images as they sing.
The Build a Temple puzzle in the October 2021 Friend is similar to using post-it notes. Pass out pieces and good singers get to come place theirs on the board.
