These are a few key takeaways from her talk:
Primary music teaches pure doctrine. Every song is a sermon that helps children come to know Jesus Christ.
The Spirit is the true teacher. Help children notice what they feel as they sing.
Music builds lifelong faith. Songs learned in childhood can return years later to comfort, guide, and strengthen.
Teach with purpose and joy. Your efforts prepare children for ordinances and deepen their covenant relationship with the Savior.
Your work matters eternally. Every singing time moment helps write God’s law upon the hearts of His youngest disciples.
My favorite quote from Sister Browning’s talk is this one:
Music in Primary can be taught with joy, doctrinal understanding and the Spirit, including helping children recognize the feelings of the Holy Ghost. These can prepare them for sacred ordinances.
I love how “JOY” comes first in the list! Then followed by “doctrinal understanding” and eventually “feeling the spirit.”
If children aren’t finding joy in singing time, it’s hard to have them understand the doctrine or feel the spirit.
So, let’s keep teaching, singing, and testifying. Because as Sister Browning reminded us, Primary music changes hearts—one song, one child, and one moment of the Spirit at a time.
